Mother and Daughter Dolls by Martha Thompson The mother is 8 inches the daughter is 6 ¼ inches. They are both sculpted porcelain-clay doll portraying a mother and a smiling young girl. The heads are both shoulder heads, softly-stuffed muslin torso, upper arms and legs, and porcelain-clay arms and legs, exquisitely painted facial features, brunette molded hair, painted white socks and black painted Mary Jane‘s on the child and blue shoes on the Mother. They are generally excellent with a very minor rub in a tiny spot or two. Both dolls are marked on the base of the feet MDT for Martha D. Thompson who was an American artist, and charter member of NIADA. They are extremely rare early doll by the noted American doll maker with superb detail and painting. |
